Carnelian is an established birthstone for September.

I’ll let you browse our awesome stock of carnelian beads at your leisure…but before you click that link, let’s focus on a rarity: a carnelian trade bead.

Carnelian cubes - a rare tradebead treat!

You don’t see these every day, even if you’re an African-bead connoisseur. Five corner-cut beads to the strand, a reasonable price, and the joy of finding something really unique!

I’ve found carnelian to be a very popular stone, one which I’ve grown to have a great appreciation for…
When I did Birthstone of the Month posts I chose the fabulous sapphire…next to purple, blue of all shades is a huge favorite mine. I would bet that most people didn’t know the ruby and the sapphire, which are members of the corundum family are basically the same chemically and structurally, with exception of the color. As a matter of fact any gem quality corundum, which also comes in orange-pink, golden, white, black, yellow and green are called sapphires while the red stones are called rubies!!!
It is very interesting researching and writing about the stones…healing properties may be my next step… :0)
    Enjoy your day!
    Cheers

    – Heather, thanks for lots more background information – learning which gemstones are related to others gives me ideas for pairings that might be fun to try!
    – Tish, I share your opinion. I just had to select these carnelian beads to feature all by themselves!
