Golden Tassel Necklace Project

October 6, 2015

Tassels are all the rage right now! And I love bib statement necklaces. So I decided to make a bib necklace with chain tassels hanging from the front. I love the way it turned out! You can make it easily with pre-made tassels or by creating your own tassels quickly with some chain, eye pins and bullet-end bead caps. Follow the easy instructions below to make your own!

All the materials needed to make this necklace! You can also use pre-made chain tassels if you want for an even faster project!

Additional supplies and tools needed.

Additional Supplies and Tools Needed:

Now to assemble the necklace!

Cut a piece of the sheet metal into a rectangle. You want to cut it about 4 inches long and 3/4 inch thick.

The shears will cut through the metal easily.

File the corners of the sheet metal so they are slightly rounded and not sharp.

On the back of the sheet metal, mark 5 dots with a permanent marker to indicate where you will place  the holes.

Punch holes with the metal hole punch.

Also, make two holes in the top corners.

Dip the brass piece in the Novacan Black Patina.

Antique the bullet end findings in the Novacan Black as well.

The metal will turn black from the Novacan solution.

Polish the metal to remove some of the patina using polishing pads or steel wool.

Now to make the chain tassels. You will need to cut several pieces of chain the same length. The easiest way is to cut one piece and then use it to measure more pieces. That way, you don’t have to count links.

Make a pile of chain segments. You will need 6 per tassel and 5 tassels total, so 30 pieces of chain. I cut each chain segment about 2 1/2 inches.

Add the chain segments to the end of an eye pin.

Close the eye pin and then place the bullet cap onto the straight end of the eye pin.

Make a wrapped loop with the end snuggly securing the bullet end.

Repeat on all 5 tassels.

Using the jump rings, attach the tassels to your prepared brass sheet plate.

Add all 5 tassels to the sheet metal.

Add a piece of chain to the top corners with jump rings. I like to make it hang about 18 inches, so I cut a piece of chain that was 14 inches, since the brass was 4 inches across.

Cut the chain in the back center and add the lobster clasp on one end and a jump ring on the other end.

Completed necklace!

Well I hope you enjoyed this project! And remember you can easily make this with pre-made tassels too! Enjoy and happy creating! ~Tiffany
