Make Metal Stamped Sports Team Necklaces

November 17, 2015

With fall comes pumpkin spice lattes, sweaters and boots. And if you’re the parent of a middle-school to college aged daughter, you know fall brings another thing too: extracurricular activities. I remember loving when school started back up so I could join the volleyball team! Whether your children are into volleyball, soccer, basketball or cheer squad, we have new metal stamps just for you! And the best part is, you can make necklaces at a reasonable cost for the entire team! See how I made these school spirited custom necklaces below!

Volleyball Team Spirit Necklaces!

Materials for necklaces

Materials Needed:

Sports themed metal stamps

Alphabet metal stamps for customizing everyone’s names.

Additional Supplies and Tools Needed:
Now Follow the Directions Below!

Choose your metal stamp. I am making volleyball themed necklaces.

Stamp the center of all your stamping blanks with the decorative stamp of your choice. Try to get a good impression with one hard whack of the hammer.

Volleyball stamped blanks

Use letter stamps to stamp the names of the players on each pendant.

If you like, you can use masking tape or Stamp Straight Tape to make sure you stamp the names in a straight line.

Once you’re done stamping, dip the brass pendants in Novacan Black Patina solution.

The solution will make the metal dark, almost black.

Use the sanding sponge to polish each pendant. This removes the patina everywhere except in the indentations, leaving just the stamped design darkened.

Once the pendants are polished, your custom design will really pop!

Now place one crystal bead on each headpin.

Using round nose pliers, make wrapped loops on all the headpins.

Trim the excess wire and tuck any sharp tail with chain nose pliers.

Cut the chain into necklace-sized pieces. I cut mine 18-inches long each. This is a standard necklace length.

After the chain is cut, you can begin assembling the necklaces.

Add the pendant and crystal charm with the jump rings.

Use the ball end clasps on the ends.

All the girls names are now ready for action! These necklaces make great gifts at the beginning or end of the season!

Well I hope you enjoyed this project! I think it is a really great project and way to bring the team together and increase team spirit! I know I would have loved these necklaces when I played volleyball back in high school.

Happy Jewelry Making!

    Hi Julie,
Tiffany used the 1/12″ (2mm) Aras uppercase letter stamp set. I updated the blog above so now you can click directly to the stamps from the parts list. 🙂
    Thanks for asking! Happy stamping.
