DIY Jewelry – How to Make a Magnetic Clasp Converter

June 28, 2019

Have you ever struggled with clasping a necklace or bracelet? If so, you will love magnetic clasp converters! The magnetic clasp converter attaches to your existing jewelry and converts your manual clasp into a magnetic clasp. It requires just minutes to make, and the only skill you need is the ability to open and close a jump ring. Follow these easy steps to make your own:

These are the suggested supplies:

Silver Plated
Antiqued-Brass Plated
Gold Plated

You will need the following tools:

  • #69-275-03Wubbers Chain-Nose Jewelry Making Pliers
  • #69-275-31 Wubbers Medium, Flat-Nose Jewelry Making Pliers

Lay out the components of the magnetic clasp converter; one side of the converter has a jump ring that attaches to the necklace’s clasp, and the other side has a spring-ring clasp that attach to the necklace’s end ring or tab.

Make the clasp portion of the converter: use the small jump ring to connect one half of the magnetic clasp to the spring-ring clasp.

Jump Ring Basics

When you open and close jump rings, twist ends instead of “ovaling” them.
This keeps their round shape better, which makes them easier to close neatly and securely.

How to attach the magnetic clasp converter:
  • Attach the converter clasp to the end tab or end jump ring of a necklace chain.
  • Attach the necklace clasp to the end jump ring of the converter.
  • Connect the magnetic clasp.
