Jewelry Tutorial – Curved Bead-Bar Necklace

April 23, 2019

Simplicity and elegance combine in this April-themed necklace.  Sparkling Swarovski Crystal briolette beads, like drops of rain, line a hand-formed curved bead bar.  The red brass wire glows from inside the briolette beads, and pairs with the sterling necklace for a mixed-metal effect. Best of all, this is the perfect project for using the 1-Step Looper pliers (one of my favorite things).

Jewelry Design Ideas for Endless Hoop Style Ear Wires

March 22, 2019

This new product is a bit curious; though named “endless” hoop earring findings, these clearly have two ends (they are really more of a C-shape). One end of the ear wire inserts into your ear piercing, and the other is a decorative stopping point for whatever adornment you add. This raised a few design questions — What is the best way to use these? And how do you keep the added adornment from just sliding off? Read on for our solutions to these important design questions.

How to Emboss and Oxidize Pewter Blanks for Jewelry Making

March 14, 2019

It is no surprise around the Rings & Things warehouse that the Sizzix embossing machine and DecoEmboss dies are favorites of mine. So when asked to “product test” use of the Vintaj Artisan Pewter Blanks with the embossing tools, I was happy to volunteer. Below are the steps I took to emboss 22-gauge pewter blanks. As an added bonus, I also included the necessary steps for oxidizing and polishing the embossed blanks.

One of my favorite combinations when making bracelets is leather and charms! I decided to make this a multi strand bracelet because the stacked bracelet look is such a huge trend right now. To make your own version of this multi strand leather charm bracelet, read on. Make a Tassel Necklace with Prayer Beads

November 10, 2015
People use Mala necklaces for both spirituality and fashion, and making a Mala tassel necklace with prayer beads can be easy and fun! The use of Malas or “meditation garlands” in prayer dates back 3,000 years. Traditional Malas consist of 108 prayer beads, including “marker” beads, plus a larger “summit” or “guru” bead.  During meditation, a mantra or prayer is recited 108 times — once per bead. The marker beads serve as a point to re-focus, if necessary, and the summit bead is a beginning and ending point. When you make your own DIY Mala necklace, you can incorporate gemstone beads with properties that benefit you (or your family, friends, and customers). You can also use charms with symbols of your choice and colors with special meanings. Read on for full instructions. Continue Reading…
