New, improved…R&T website

March 8, 2010

We’d like to mention a recent success.

We upgraded R&T’s online store. Enjoy the easier and convenient-er times you’ll have shopping with us!

Same look. Way better!

Same look. Way better!

The old dog can do some new tricks, like these…

  • It saves your shopping cart: automatically, even, when you close the browser window! Just view your cart when done shopping session. (It saves only what you’ve viewed.)
  • It won’t interrupt your shopping: so you’re not taken away from the page you’re looking at!
  • It redeems more than one gift certificates: at the same time (on the same order).
  • It previews product categories for you: just scroll over a product picture & there’s a pop-up bubble.
  • It collects recent product reviews: from your fellow shoppers.
  • It finds multiple previous carts: if you’re a registered R&T customer, this is a snap now.
  • It lets you check out as a guest: so you don’t have to register if you don’t feel like it.

Happy shopping! Let us know how you like your new, improved R&T store.

Alice in Jewelryland

March 5, 2010

With “that” movie coming out today, we’ve seen quite a lot of craft activity on an Alice in Wonderland theme. Here’s a visual suggestion…

alice_in_wonderland

We put together a quick list of R&T items that fit an Alice in Wonderland theme. Pictured above:

And that’s just for starters. Search in our online store for “rabbit”, “watch”, “teapot”, “key”, “playing card” and more, for endless design inspirations! (Extra bonus — the cup & saucer charm might help you sell to the tea-party folks.)

What’s your Alice jewelry inspiration? Let us know in a comment below!

Survivor: DIY

March 4, 2010

One of R&T’s friends has such an interesting way of creating his jewelry from natural materials, we thought we should feature him here…

Wandering Creations

Artist Kelly Tidwell has been exploring and adventuring in his kayak for the past 3 years in the wilds of Southeast Alaska. Living and voyaging by kayak throughout the year, Kelly discovers remote beaches full of various natural treasures that inspire these beautiful creations. Pinto abalone shells found along the rocky shorelines of Prince of Wales Island are caught in the deep channels by river otters who dive deep, then bring the abalone up to feast on the beach, leaving the shells behind. Antlers from the Sitka black-tailed deer are shed naturally each year and found in profusion on islands and in the wooded forests.

Roughing it: living off the land and making jewelry

Roughing it: living off the land and making jewelry

Kelly’s inspiration and artistic energy has gone into creating these hand-crafted, unique pendants and earrings. Making such beautiful jewelry while living and camping in the wilderness far from any city or town can be very challenging. Each piece is carefully hand-cut and shaped to showcase the individual beauty of the antler and mother-of-pearl shell materials. With sterling silver findings and chains to compliment each piece, these are truly one-of-a-kind works of art!

(This information comes from Kelly. Thanks for sharing your unique story, Kelly!)

You can always count on R&T’s blog for some excitement, can’t you? 🙂

In homage to the current movie-inspired Alice in Wonderland resurgence…

Only we’re talking about some très snappy choker forms. (You can remove the ends to string your beads!)
