I’ve noticed lately that minimalist jewelry is really in style. I’ve also seen a lot people wearing three dainty necklaces together. What better way to show off these converging trends than a Mother’s Day project! I used sterling silver stamping blanks and stamped three children’s birthdays, then paired them with the coordinating Swarovski birthstone accents. I then hung them at slightly different lengths. I love the end result. Learn how to make this project below!
This project is really quite simple. It only takes a few tools and supplies to complete!

Supplies and tools needed for this project. You will also need a basic tool kit (not pictured) that includes chain-nose pliers and wire cutters.
Supplies Needed:
- 3 Sterling Silver Stamping Blanks, 44-750-15
- 18 Sterling Silver Jump Rings, #37-295-440
- 6 Sterling Silver Eye Pins, #37-815
- 3 Sterling Silver Lobster Clasps, #39-546
- Swarovski 4mm Bicones in Birthstone Colors, #05-328-04
(Need help figuring out birthstone colors? See our Birthstones page) - Silver Plated Small Cable Chain, #40-099-13-3
- A Permanent Marker
- A Polishing Cloth or Pad, #63-528
- Scotch Tape
Tools Needed:

Tape the sterling silver blank to the steel block to stabilize the metal while you stamp it. Tip: Use a permanent marker to draw a line on the bottom of the blank so you stay straight when stamping.

Stamp the dates onto the blanks. I like to stamp the month on the left first, then the year on the right. This way you can center the day in the middle.

After you have stamped the date with periods in between, this is how it will look. Repeat on the other blanks with more dates.

After you have finished stamping all three, fill in the numbers with permanent marker or – new! – Stamp Enamel.

Attach the crystals to the coordinating stamped birthday. Pictured above, the May birthday gets Emerald Swarovski crystals, the August birthday gets Peridot Swarovski crystals, and the September birthday gets Sapphire Swarovski crystals.

Cut three pieces of chain. I wanted the necklaces to be staggered at 16, 17 and 18 inches, but you can choose whatever length you want. To make necklaces at the lengths listed, first subtract the length of the metal stamped dates with crystals attached (about 1-1/2 inches across). This means you’ll want to cut your three chains to 14-1/2 inches, 15-1/2 inches, and 16-1/2 inches respectively.

Attach one chain to one side of a crystal focal using 1 jump ring. Attach the other side of the chain to the other side of the stamped date with another jump ring.

To complete the necklaces, cut each chain in the center of the back. Using 1 jump ring, attach the clasp on one side. Attach a final jump ring as the catch on the other side of the chain. Repeat to complete all three necklaces.
Well I hope you like how these turned out! I think it was such a fun project! Check out this other stamped project below! Metal stamping is great for making custom pieces! ~Tiffany

I really like this idea. And since it will go well with her mother’s ring, which my brother, sister and I all chipped into get her for her birthday a number of years ago, I’ve decided I’d like to make this for my mom for Mother’s Day this year. Either that, or a mother’s bracelet, with birthstone charms of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She’ll have an awful lot of sapphires on it, though, because so many of us are September babies, lol! Thank you kindly for the inspiration!
