I’ll be occasionally presenting a Featured Bead in this blog, and to start off this series, what could be better than…
A Rings & Things exclusive! Our “Russ Troll” beads commemorate our iconic founder & owner, Russ Nobbs. (He’ll probably ask me to remove those words once he reads this.) 🙂
These are handmade Peruvian ceramic beads, with a hole large enough (2.5-3mm) for just about any cording you’re going to string them on. On narrower stringing materials, you might keep Russ in his place with Bead Bumpers.
Russ stands about 32 millimeters tall, which is approximately an inch and a quarter. That makes him the Littlest Troll. He has a varied wardrobe, as you can see in the picture above, so order a bunch. Collect ’em all!

That’s too cute! Interested why the moniker troll was chosen, though…
I think it has much more to do with those kitschy Russ Berrie trolls than with the trolls of folklore!
Founder seems about right for a guy that old.
But why a troll? Does he live under an iconic bridge?
Or over a rainbow? Is it a pot of gold thing?
I get it now that you mention the troll dolls. I guess after being a moderator on a very large forum (over 20k members) the word troll just took on a totally new meaning and I’d forgotten all about those cute little things. Did you also know they had an alternate name? Dammit Dolls – that’s what they were called when I was little, but of course I wasn’t allowed to call them that! Their inventor’s name was Thomas Dam. I always thought they were called that because it’s what parents would say when they stepped on one while walking down the hall barefoot in the dark…
I saw an Etsy shop selling “Dammit dolls” too, handmade gremlins that you chuck when you’re made 🙂
I’m really glad to be introduced to this blog via the “Russ Troll” beads. I love the beads and I love the idea that the founder of “Rings and Things” is held in such affection that an iconic bead celebrates him.
too cute,
like the dwarf from snow white story
You should see some of the photos we have of this bead hanging out with garden gnomes 🙂
